River Farms Studios is actually two studios. Windy Hill Glassworks, a flame working glass workshop by Elizabeth Mears, makes sculptural objects using a hot glass technique at the torch. Windy Hill String Works, a muscial instrument production workshop by Mike Mears, has produced over 300 guitars, fiddles, banjos and ukeleles. There is a display gallery at the glassworks studio where glass sculptures are on display and some are for sale. The guitarworks studio will have instruments to try and instruments and accessories for sale.
SPECIAL SITE CONSIDERATIONS: Windy Hill Stringworks is handicap accessible via ramps. Windy Hill Glassworks has two single steps to access the studio and rest room. There is parking for about 20 cars on the greenway near the river. Signs will guide visitors.
SPECIAL DIRECTIONS: Sowers Mill Dam Road runs beside the Little River in Floyd County. The nearest cross street is White Oake Grove Road (Route 617)
